MGE survey finds many local businesses ready to investigate electric transportation options

MGE recently conducted a study with local businesses to learn more about their fleet and fleet operations as well as interest in electric vehicles (EV).

The short story: EVs are of interest to local businesses and a good fit for many local fleets.

Our survey results uncovered the following:
  • Pickup trucks were the most common company vehicle (although EV pickup trucks are currently unavailable, that will be changing next year).
  • Just under half of fleet vehicles are sedans or SUVs.
  • Over half of respondents reported 81% to 100% of their fleet vehicles parked on company property overnight (making on-site EV charging critical).
  • Nearly 60% of respondents reported more than 80% of their vehicles travel fewer than 250 miles a day (the EV sweet spot).
  • Lower fuel costs and lower emissions were the top two reasons for investigating EVs.
  • Upfront costs were the top concern regarding an EV purchase.
